EVOLUTION OF SUMMA’S DIGITAL-CUTTING TECHNOLOGY
SPW: “Summa has been a leader in digital cutting for over 50 years. How has the company evolved over time?”
Stijn Henderickx:“Over the years, Summa has built a reputation as a global authority in digital cutting. We started with high-performance vinyl cutters and expanded into flatbed and laser-cutting solutions. We’ve continually adapted to industry demands and our ability to innovate has allowed us to stay ahead of the curve. With the integration of Valiani, we have significantly strengthened our offerings to customers in folding carton and packaging.”
SPW: “What makes Summa’s cutting technology stand out from its competitors?”
SH: “Precision and reliability are at the core of our technology. Our vinyl and flatbed cutters are known for their exceptional accuracy, making them an essential tool for sign makers. We are one of the pioneers in kiss-cutting, which ensures precise vinyl cutting without damaging the back foil or paper.
“Coupled with our proprietary, tangential cutting technology, we help users unleash their creativity and create intricate designs with speed and efficiency. Moreover, we’ve got our unique Automatic Device Calibration (ADC) technology. It adjusts cutting depth and pressure automatically, whenever a new tool is mounted or new media placed. Last but not least, I would like to highlight our GoSuite of software tools that assist operators throughout the print-cut workflow.”

INTEGRATION OF VALIANI AND V SERIES LAUNCH
SPW: “Valiani is now part of the Summa family. What does this mean for your customers?”
Nico Valiani: “Our integration into Summa has expanded the possibilities for customers in the packaging and sign industries. Our V-cut technology complements Summa’s kiss-cutting expertise, giving professionals a broader range of cutting solutions.
“With the recent launch of the V Series, we’ve brought the best of both worlds together – Summa’s precision-cutting technology and Valiani’s expertise in packaging applications. These machines are perfect for cutting and folding cartons with outstanding accuracy. This makes them indispensable for packaging professionals throughout the process, from creating prototypes to short–medium production runs.”
A WORLD PREMIERE
SPW: “You’ve hinted at a major product debut at FESPA 2025 and ISA Sign Expo. Can you share any details?”
SH: “We are excited to introduce a brand-new cutting machine – an innovation the market has been requesting for quite some time. We can’t reveal too much just yet, but we invite everyone to visit our booth at FESPA and ISA to witness this revolutionary technology firsthand. This is a game-changer for digital cutting and we can’t wait to share it with the world!”
