This article explores Coveme’s ‘under-the-surface’ materials that quietly determine whether innovation succeeds or fails
In many of today’s most advanced industrial products, innovation is not immediately visible. It lies beneath the surface. It might be in a polymer film that keeps electronics dimensionally stable under heat, in a coating that combines durability with refined tactility or in a substrate that enables flawless printing at industrial speed. Coveme has built its industrial identity precisely in this invisible, but decisive space.

COMPANY EVOLUTION
Coveme originated in the 1960s as a distributor of electrical insulation materials. The company’s journey has been guided by a clear insight – commoditised markets rarely support long-term success. As customers pushed polyester films into increasingly demanding applications, it became evident that performance would depend, not on supplying base materials, but also on transforming them.
That realisation led to a defining strategic choice – bringing manufacturing and material converting in-house. The opening of the production site in Gorizia, Italy, in 1996 marked a turning point. Films were no longer just delivered, they were engineered. Surface treatments, coatings and thermal processes were developed internally to modify material behaviour and unlock access to higher-value industrial markets.
What sets the company apart is not only its longevity. It is also a rare combination of deep material expertise, a broad and integrated portfolio of converting technologies and the ability to translate these capabilities into tailored solutions for highly demanding applications. Today, the next generation of the owning family have recently taken over leadership. Meanwhile, Coveme continues to invest with a long-term, far-sighted vision that balances innovation, industrial stability and sustainability.
A PLATFORM BUILT ON EXPERTISE
The most demanding applications require a precise blend of characteristics. These include dimensional stability, surface energy control, thermal and chemical resistance, printability, release behaviour, dielectric performance or tactile finishes. All of these characteristics are combined with the ability to reproduce these properties reliably at industrial scale.
Coveme’s strength lies in its capacity to combine multiple technologies, applied independently or integrated into tightly controlled manufacturing flows:
Surface Treatment – Surface treatments tailor surface energy and adhesion to ensure optimal wettability for downstream coatings, inks and adhesives. Technologies, such as trichloroacetic acid treatment, elevate surface tension permanently up to 72 dynes/cm. This enables excellent adhesion with water- and solvent-based coating systems.

Functional Coating – Functional coatings are applied as thin, uniform layers to add application-specific functional and aesthetic properties. These include printability, release performance, hydrophilicity, scratch resistance, anti-fingerprint behaviour, fire resistance and controlled matt effects. Coating thicknesses range from 0.5–300µm, with web widths of up to 2,250mm.
Heat Stabilisation – Through controlled thermal treatment, polymer films achieve high dimensional stability under elevated temperatures with residual shrinkage as low as 0.2% at 150°C and stable performance above the polythene terephthalate (PET) glass transition temperature (70–80°C).
Lamination – Roll-to-roll lamination combines materials such as PET, polyimide, metals, polymers and speciality papers into engineered multilayer structures. This process integrates complementary material properties into a single solution. Laminate thicknesses range from 23–890µm and web widths up to 1,850mm.
Slitting and Rewinding – Automated processes support widths from 6–2,300mm, with customised marking, labelling and packaging, to guarantee traceability and efficient logistics.

PROPERTIES ENABLING PERFORMANCE
Across industries, polymer films are expected to do far more than act as passive substrates. Coveme’s solutions are engineered to deliver measurable outcomes in manufacturing and in use. They offer dimensional stability and low residual shrinkage, as well as controlled surface energy for adhesion and print performance. In addition, thermal and chemical resistance, and release behaviour for transfer processes. Furthermore, functional surface performance and electrical insulation and reliability. Finally, sustainability oriented solutions, including recycled content options.
These engineered properties support applications across flexible electronics, photovoltaics, printing and graphics, labels and tags, industrial insulation, and advanced surface solutions. Consistency, precision and process compatibility directly affect performance and yield in these applications.

VISION, SUSTAINABILITY, PARTNERSHIP
Coveme’s evolution has been guided by stable ownership and an investment philosophy focused on building industrial capabilities. The recent transition to the next generation of the owning family reinforces this direction. It signals a future built on responsibility, transparency and measurable progress. The regular publication of Coveme’s Sustainability Report reflects this commitment. It documents concrete actions such as process innovation, responsible material choices and environmental governance.
Often operating behind the scenes, Coveme plays a strategic role at the start of new industrial solutions. When manufacturers explore new surfaces, electronics architectures or more sustainable solutions, materials define what is possible. By combining deep polymer conversion know-how with a broad technology portfolio – and by working closely with customers from concept to industrial scale-up – Coveme acts as a partner in innovation.
CONCLUSION
For companies ready to push materials further – exploring new applications, higher performance standards or more responsible solutions – Coveme offers the experience and capabilities to work through open exchange, mutual learning and jointly defined objectives. From early concept to industrial scale, Coveme invites the next idea to shape with its customers.
